Some foods you'll be eating if you decide to cleanse.
Last fall, I did my first cleanse. I started on a Monday and ate real food all week, in decreasing amounts each day. I stayed away from the chocolate and candy corns in my cabinets. I was tired all week, and cranky, but that’s all part of the cleansing process (I was releasing toxins after all). I was proud of myself and everything was going well.
Unfortunately, I timed my cleanse during the greatest candy holiday of the year – Halloween. That Saturday, I went to a Halloween party with a big spread of food and drink and, with one more day to go to complete my cleanse, I couldn’t eat anything.
This was too much for me. People were talking and dancing and laughing and having fun, but I sat on the couch all night, staring at a baseball game, a sport I never watch, on the T.V. I never say much at parties – for me, this is the curse of the introvert – but on this night, I was a total dud. The good news: I made it through without eating any of the food. I was going to make it to the last day of my cleanse.
Until I went home and ate some candy corns. I made it six days, just shy of my one week goal.
On Sunday, I thought about starting my second fall cleanse, but then I woke up and all I could think about was brownies. I wasn’t getting any work done because my mind was occupied with the brownies. So I had one, deciding it was not the best time to cleanse.
But cleansing can be a good thing if you’re up for the challenge. Cleansing cleans the toxins out of your system, increases your energy, helps with weight loss, and offers many other benefits that you can read about here.
Cleansing Programs
I did my first cleanse using a program created by Laughing Sage Wellness. If you’d like to do a cleanse for the first time, you might want to join their program. They offer online support throughout your seven days, shopping lists, menu plans (for the 7-day cleanse and the 7 days following your cleanse), and a 15 minute post-cleanse phone call with a counselor.
Or if you prefer to cleanse on your own, you can buy this cleansing e-book from the Boston Health Coach. It’s an e-book about spring cleansing, but it explains the benefits of the cleansing process and offers several cleansing program options.
Enjoy your toxin release!
