This week I’m moving! I’ll miss many things about the neighborhood where I currently live: my favorite Indian restaurant; morning runs down to the Harbor, even though they haven’t been that fun in the heat; and the independent movie theater a few blocks up the street. But I can’t wait to be in our new place with two floors, two bedrooms, and – here’s the best part - a washing machine! I have never had my own washing machine. I may actually be excited about doing laundry, at least for the first couple of loads.
In the meantime, here’s a few food stories and recipes I’ve enjoyed reading this week. If you have any links to add, let us know in the comments.
Inviting Writing: Sick of Chocolate?: The story of a woman who overcame her aversion to chocolate on a trip to France. I didn’t think it was possible not to like chocolate, so I’m glad the writer has found a version she enjoys.
Hot Dogs for the Charcutepalooza July Challenge: I am so, so behind in the Chatecutepalooza project. Let’s be honest: I’m not even a real member. But if there’s one meat I love, it’s hot dogs. Really. I don’t care who knows it. No ketchup, mustard, or relish for me though; I like my dogs straight up. Head over to host Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s blog for a preview of the hot dogging making process. And cross your fingers that in a couple of weeks, you can read more about homemade hot dogs here.
Cookie Butters: The title of this post from Three Many Cooks, one of the hosts of the summer food blog conference I’ll be attending in a few weeks (yea!), caught my eye. I’ve never had a cookie butter. In fact, I’ve never heard of them. Head on over to the blog to find out just what a cookie butter is, and how to make three versions, including vanilla wafer butter with lemon and rosemary.

Good luck on your move – I’ve missed you! I enjoy hotdogs, too! I like ketchup, but I’m allergic to most commercial brands, so I usually eat it straight up like you!
Two floors? Very cool.
The cookie butters look awesome. I have to wonder…what do you eat them on? Bagels? Quickbreads? A spoon?
Good luck with the move Jen. Only three weeks to go until our Big Summer Potluck road trip!
Good luck with the move! When we first moved to our house (two levels) I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Now I’m trying to figure out how I can have more space without moving…
Happy moving day, Jen! Do hope you’ll tell us about the summer food blog conference when it happens! I’m curious…
Thanks everyone!
@Victoria: My guess is that you could eat the cookie butters on any kind of bread product. Let me know if you try them!
@Lisa: I’ll definitely fill you in the conference.
JEN!! Huge congrats on the exciting move! I remember when we got our first washing machine — so awesome! It’s the best! Also, I LOVE hotdogs too, but with mustard and onion and relish. We recently started eating the gourmet chicken (with jalapeno) kind and love those, too. And really, someone who doesn’t like chocolate? WHO KNEW???
your new place is beautiful…just like both of you
